MAXIMIZING MOMENTS – DECEMBER 2019

MAKE 2020 THE YEAR OF TRAVEL

We’ve rounded up 20 of our favorite destinations to inspire your next trip.

Sicily

Sicily is growing in popularity as travelers want to see more of Italy while experiencing authentic culture, learning about the history, and enjoying the food and wine. Bonus: Sicily also has a gorgeous coastline with stunning beaches.

Japan

A land of contrasts, Japan juxtaposes fast-paced, modern life with ancient traditions; bustling cities with idyllic gardens; and towering skyscrapers with peaceful temples. Make sure you plan enough time in Japan to experience both ends of the spectrum.

New Zealand

There are beautiful destinations, and then there’s New Zealand. You’ll want to spend hours soaking up the stunning vistas, so it’s a good thing there are endless outdoor activities like hiking, hot air ballooning, rafting, biking, bungy jumping, visiting vineyards, and trekking…just to name a few.

Ireland

Maybe it’s the “luck of the Irish” that keeps Ireland high on our list, but we can’t help but love the Emerald Isle. The country is bursting with culture, history, and stunning landscapes that pair perfectly with a pint of Guinness.

Morocco

Looking for an exotic destination with hospitality that makes you feel right at home? Look no further than Morocco. With winding medinas, stunning deserts, vibrant cities, and warm and friendly locals, Morocco charmed it’s way onto our list for 2020.

Uruguay

Nestled between Argentina and Brazil, Uruguay can be overshadowed by its huge neighbors, but this country is making a name for itself. This warm and welcoming country has an incredible culinary scene, beautiful beaches, and outdoor activities that can keep you as busy – or relaxed – as you desire.

Colombia

More and more travelers are becoming intrigued by Colombia’s vibrant culture, colorful cities, and diverse geography. And by diverse geography, we aren’t joking. One of the seventeen countries considered “megadiverse”, Colombia boasts rainforests, mountains, beaches, and deserts.

The Dolomites

Located in northeastern Italy, The Dolomites region is perfect for the traveler who wants adventure and Italy’s famed culinary scene. Mountains, pasta, wine – what’s not to love?!

Brazil

Brazil isn’t just a one-and-done destination (unless you plan on spending weeks exploring!). There are world-famous beaches, lush jungles, the incredible Iguazu Falls, national parks, and, of course, lively cities. And since dropping its visa requirements for US citizens, Brazil has made it even easier to experience its beauty and charm.

Fiji

With an average temperature of 86 and bountiful pristine beaches, there’s no wonder why Fiji is home to some of the happiest people on earth. This year-round destination isn’t just about lounging by the ocean; there is world-class snorkeling and surfing as well as hiking and kayaking. Plus, you’ll love learning about the culture and history from Fiji’s welcoming and friendly people.

Greece

Known for ancient mythology, philosophers like Socrates and Plato, democracy, olive oil, and Mama Mia, Greece appeals to travelers with all types of interests. And while Santorini and Mykonos are top spots, we recommend experiencing smaller islands, like Naxos, to experience authentic Greek culture.

Botswana

For any animal enthusiasts: add Botswana to your list. Thanks to conservation efforts, Botswana has some of the highest wildlife concentration and diversity in Africa. From the Okavango Delta to the Kalahari Desert to Makgadikgadi Salt Pans, you can see elephants, rhinos, black-maned lions, cheetah, wildebeest, zebra, and more!

New Mexico

You may think of the desert when you imagine New Mexico, but this state actually has five different ecosystems. You can see mountains, prairies, and even land full of Christmas trees! In the northeast region of the state, Vermejo Park Ranch combines the Wild West history with wildlife, beautiful landscapes, and exciting outdoor activities.

Portugal

This small country that conquered much of the New World has also been by conquered travelers’ hearts. The art, cuisine, wine, history, and beaches are all on the must-experience list, and since Portugal isn’t massive, you can explore much of the country without spending hours in transit.

Germany

Though we love Germany’s beer and bratwurst, the country offers so much more. Berlin has a vibrant art scene, Baden-Baden is famous for spas, and the countryside has picturesque villages. Every 10 years in the Bavarian village Oberammergau, locals perform the Passion Play – a tradition that started in 1634! You can experience it for yourself from May to October of 2020, but tickets are selling out quickly.

Anguilla

When you need to get away from the hectic day-to-day life and get on island time, head to Anguilla. This slice of paradise is the perfect place to relax on the beach, snorkel in the pristine Caribbean waters, and enjoy some incredible resorts. Sun, sand, and a drink in your hand is just what the doctor ordered!

Churchill, Canada

If you’re pulling up a map to figure out where exactly Churchill is, head north from Winnipeg until you hit the Hudson Bay (you might have to zoom in). This tiny town made our list for one main reason: polar bears. Here, you can look for polar bears from October to November when the world’s largest concentration of polar bears gather at the edge of the Hudson Bay.

Jordan

When you visit Jordan, you will surround yourself with fascinating history and intriguing culture. There are plenty of historic sights, like Petra, as well as adventure. Float in the Dead Sea, snorkel in the Red Sea, and ride a camel through Wadi Rum (if they look familiar, it’s probably because it has been the backdrop of movies like The MartianLawrence of Arabia, and Aladdin).

India

Take your sense on a journey through India! With a lifetime of history and a world of culture packed all into one country, India is guaranteed to leave visitors in awe.

South Carolina

Though we love Charleston, one of the world’s top-ranked cities, we also adore another area of South Carolina: the Low-country. Here you can enjoy local cuisine, outdoor activities, and charming scenery all wrapped in Southern hospitality.

Croatia

Whether you love history, beaches, culture, water activities, or Game of Thrones, you’ll love Croatia. Here you can find ancient Roman ruins in seaside towns, charming fishing villages, vineyards, and olive groves. And with hundreds of islands and coves to explore, we recommend spending plenty of time seeing the country by boat.

GIVE THE GIFT OF TRAVEL

Finding the perfect gift is tricky. Will that argyle sweater be too small for your dad? What if your husband all of a sudden has an aversion to whiskey? And still to this day, you’ve never given your sister a gift that she hasn’t immediately returned. Did you know studies show that the happiness we feel from receiving material things fades much quicker than the joy we receive through experiences? Travel is a powerful way to show you care and the benefits far outweigh anything you can tie together with a bow. So this year, instead of spending hours searching for the perfect gift, consider gifting a once-in-a-lifetime trip or a relaxing weekend away. Here are five reasons you should give the gift of travel.

Memories Last Forever

Chances are you don’t still have that gadget you had to have or wear the shirt that was so in style, but the memories of your family roadtrip through Yellowstone or your first trip abroad stick out vividly in your mind. Let’s be honest, no matter how thoughtful your Amazon Prime find is, chances are it will be forgotten just as quickly as it was delivered. Your travel memories, however, will last a lifetime.

The Gift of Quality Time

Travel gives us the gift of time away. And when we can escape the day-to-day routine, we can reconnect as we spend time with loved ones.  It’s been shown that shared experiences are key to strengthening relationships, and what’s better than experiencing a new place together? Whether you’re jetting off with the whole family, a group of friends, or your better half, you’re sure to enjoy quality time while sparking a renewed appreciation for one another.

Travel Broadens Our Horizons

Seeing new places and engaging in different cultures opens our minds and helps us gain new perspectives.  As an educational tool, travel is an exciting way to learn about the world around us and will certainly receive a much more enthusiastic response from little ones.

The Ultimate Reset

Do you or a loved one suffer from boredom, lack of inspiration, or general feeling of restlessness? Might we suggest a three-day spa weekend to calm your nerves and ease your mind? Or perhaps a week-long jaunt through Europe to reignite creativity? While we don’t doubt that Goop’s Gift Guide has the latest and greatest items for self-care, there is something about getting out of town that simply can't be beat.

The Gift That Keeps On Giving

The gift of travel is more than just the trip. As soon as your loved one unwraps the gift, the excitement and anticipation begins. You can give a perfectly designed itinerary, so all your loved ones have to do is think about what to pack. You can give a trip with no set destination or plan, and together you can work with your travel advisor to create a personalized travel experience. Or, if your loved ones want to make travel a priority, you could give them Wanderlist, a service that helps you turn your bucket lists into a well-organized travel plan. Then, the trip itself gives you and your loved ones the chance to do all the things mentioned above – spend quality time together, broaden your horizons, and reset. And after the trip is over, you will return with memories that you will cherish forever.

If you are interested in learning more about Wanderlist, I am a certified Virtuoso Wanderlist Advisor and I would be happy to talk with you about this unique tool that can uncover destinations and experiences that align with your interests and desires.
